About the project
Innovation has been powered by the imagination and problem-solving creativity of individual Americans for over two centuries. Nation of Inventors illustrates the steps to obtaining a patent and the historyrocess in the U.S.A. requirement in the 19th century for obtaining a patent was the of the patent p submission of a scale model. Hagley possesses the world’s largest private collection of patent models.
Nation of Inventors is a permanent exhibit occupying 6,000 sq. ft. of Hagley’s 19th c. Mill Building. Over 200 models are featured in the exhibit and are used to illustrate profound historical changes to American society, driven by innovation. In addition to the models, the exhibits offer dynamic AV media presentations, and engaging hands-on and media-driven activities.
Visitors are inspired to be inventors by the hard work and achievements of individual men and women from widely diverse backgrounds, and to appreciate how undaunted individuals have changed the world – and how they can too.
