PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR MUSEUM
About the project
The Patuxent River Naval Air Station is the current and historic locale for the U.S. Navy’s development and testing of new flight technologies. At the Station, test pilots fly to the “edge of the envelope” and engineers assist the Navy in meeting the demands of the fleet. The Air Museum illustrates the testing process, the basic principles of flight and some of the Navy’s remarkable technological achievements. Cutting edge technologies such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter are juxtaposed with an early Curtis-Wright prop plane. Examples of historic and exotic technological equipment and aircraft surround visitors, and opportunities abound for visitors to engage in hands-on learning activities and immersive environments. Visitors will leave the museum with an appreciation of the importance of the testing process and the contributions of its pioneers and practitioners.
