BLAST FROM THE PAST: ARTILLERY IN THE WAR FOR INDEPENDENCE

About the project

Blast from the Past interprets the critical role played by artillery in the American War for Independence, specifically in the decisive battle at Yorktown. Curators assembled a collection of awe-inspiring 18th c. artillery pieces illustrating technological advancements whose profound effect tilted the war towards the American and French forces.

Adhering to an aggressive project schedule, SFD demonstrated flexibility in adapting to changing exhibit content while working with curators and exhibition staff to ensure the exhibit’s success.

Visitors to this temporary exhibit are immediately impressed by the sound and fury of an artillery engagement, portrayed using strobe lighting effects and accompanied by the deep rumble of synchronized audio effects. Throughout the gallery visitors discover opportunities to engage in hands-on activities and explore themes through AV presentations. Of course the real stars of the show are the artillery pieces themselves which are presented with dramatic lighting and pedestals that emphasize their sculptural beauty.
